Today’s Resource

I run across a lot of tools every day.  Many of them look great on the surface, until you really dig into them.  Others are so darn complicated that only the person that developed the tool understands it.  So when I find something that is simple and easy to understand, I take notice.  Many of my clients are confused with how to get their website optimized for search engines.  Let’s face it, search engine optimization is complicated.  Below are three tools I ran across today that can help you understand how to optimize you website for search engines.  Enjoy! I have received this video from a few friend in the last week and thought I should post it for everyone.

Have you have every wondered:  “why bother with social media?”  Great stats  – some very surprising.   Welcome to the revolution.

I have had several requests to summarize all of the articles in my 30 Day series.  Here you go! [Read more...]

bb_logo2BrownBook.net is a fledgling social networking site for businesses that is popping up everywhere lately. While this social media tool isn’t as high profile as some other tools, BrownBook.net is spending a lot of time marketing itself. (4756) Tempus fugitI am often asked how many hours I spend on my social media sites every day.  On average, I spend about 3 hours a day creating educational content for my clients and building stronger relationships with current and potential clients.

Something happens when you get involved with social media.  You change.  You realize that the more you give – the better you feel – and the more you get back.  I am motivated to be even more active!

By the end of the week, I have created some terrific marketing materials that are customer focused.  I have also created a bunch of ineffective materials that will not work, but here’s the thing – my social community helps me determine what is good or bad based on the comments I receive, the number of times an article is retweeted, or the emails that I receive with questions on the articles or tweets.

So – 15 hours per week [Read more...]

Eyes Wide ShutMaybe I expect too much.  I like it when I am made to feel special when I enter your store.  Yeah, yeah – touchy feely kinda stuff.  But don’t you deserve to be treated like more than just a number?  Especially in today’s marketplace.

Today, I took a 1/2 hour to get a few errands done around town.  My first stop was to a retail store* where I had a box of blinds to pick up that were ordered online.  I stopped in and said, “Hi, my name is Steve Gasser.  I have a box of blinds to pick up.”  Her comment, “Excuse me sir, I only know you by your phone number.”  In shock, I gave her my phone number and she proceeded to disappear to the back room.  When she returned, I was handed my blinds with a receipt and told, “Thank you.”  Nothing else.  I was just a number.

Why do I shop online?  I ‘feel’ like I am more than just a number.  I am greeted by my name when I browse through the online store.  My preferences are remembered.  I even see recommendations from other people like me.  This really helps when I don’t quite know what I am looking for…. Have you figured out how search engines are social?  Many search engines, like Google and Yahoo, allow people to provide company reviews.  So, if you search for your business in a local search engine, you may see a review of your business.  Give it a try.  You may not have any reviews right now, but just wait.  You will very soon.

How reviews are helpful

For the rest of this article, let’s try searching for “Hotel” and your zip code.  Read the reviews that your local hotels have online.  Many of the reviews come from the search engine, but many also come from other travel sites. When you look at these reviews, you will notice good and bad reviews.  You will also see those reviews that others found helpful.  If you find a review helpful, click “YES.”  That will make the reviews more reliable and helpful to the next person.   Reviews help you make better buying decisions.

For this lesson, I have created two videos that you can watch to get a feel for how to create and edit your listing in Google Local.  For those of you that like the step by step instructions, I have included those after the videos.

This lesson will take longer than 15 minutes. Take your time.  Your investment in this setup should be less than one hour, and the benefits will be evident for years to come. Google Maps is considered authoritative, verified information. Other local and yellow pages sites use the information found within Google listings. This leads to more exposure and more business for you. [Read more...]

googlelocalyahoo_local_logomsnLocal search has been around for awhile, but surprisingly, many businesses aren’t aware of how important it can be to securing your online presence and adding value to your potential customers who use this service every day. There is literally an entire generation of people who don’t use the yellow pages*.  So how do they find you?  They go to Google and search for your business with local terms.  For instance, if you are looking for a jeweler, type in “jewelry” and your city & state, or zip code.  If you type in “web designer 55350,”  Vivid Image will come up two out of the three local listings!

A short story about local search success…
