What’s incredible about telling the Welcome Home Management leadership story is that people from all kinds of organizations will be able to relate. From their core group of leaders working alongside each other every day facing challenges that come with a small office culture, to guiding their entire leadership team of facility directors who number 35 and are geographically dispersed, Welcome Home Management is blazing a trail. Their story teaches us that developing leadership skills and nurturing relationships to positively affect overall culture is not only possible, but also critically necessary to retain employees and take an organization of their size where they want to go.

A Great Place to Start

The core leadership team at Welcome Home Management spent a year going through the Xcelerate program ; a year-long organizational leadership training program designed to help leaders within an organization build a common language. To best understand how they worked their way into guiding their entire team through this leadership program, it’s helpful to know that Xcelerate backs things up and breaks them down into smaller, manageable pieces in order to examine behavior, recognize tendencies, own it, and move toward change. All of this is used to help teams communicate effectively and understand the strengths of each person’s voice, and celebrate their differences. Once the main Welcome Home Management leadership team saw incredible change happening within their office, their vision began to form. Knowing that the positive outcome of taking leadership building to their entire team would mean that everyone joining their organization would take ownership of where the company is going, they rolled up their sleeves and got started.

This Story is Still Unfolding While Incredible Changes are Happening

Clarification of their vision, mission, and values led them to transform communication for their entire team of senior living facility directors. Welcome Home Leadership Academy took form and 35 directors from all over Minnesota are becoming leaders worth following and committed to bringing their care team with them on the leadership journey. Through a mix of live workshop learning time, individual exercises, mentorship, encouragement, and a common language tool kit, Welcome Home Management is building strong leaders. Honest conversations are becoming the norm and their team is feeling fewer frustrations and challenges. When it’s an organization’s primary focus to care for people, having a high-performing team is essential to build trust and deepen relationships with residents and their families. That’s exactly what Welcome Home Management is doing--creating a culture where everyone can bring their best.
